A third person died in Jackson County from coronavirus, health officials said
A Jackson County man in his 60s died from the new coronavirus, county health officials announced Friday.
The death, which is the third in the county, was announced on the county’s twitter page. Further details about the patient were not immediately released.
The first two deaths in the county involved women in their 80s, according to the county health department. The most recent was reported on Wednesday.
As of Thursday at least 19 people had died in Missouri, not including the third Jackson County death and the first COVID-19 related death in Kansas City.
According to the Jackson County health department’s website, at least 132 people in the county have been diagnosed with the virus as of Friday morning. Two of those people have recovered.
As of Thursday, Missouri was reporting at least 1,834 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
On the other side of the state line, three deaths were reported in Johnson County and one death was reported in Leavenworth County Friday.
The virus has infected more than 258,000 people nationwide, killing more than 6,500 according to a database maintained by Johns Hopkins University.
