Second person dies from coronavirus in eastern Jackson County, health department says

A second COVID-19-related death has been reported in eastern Jackson County.

The deceased is a woman in her 80s, the Jackson County Health Department announced Wednesday.

No further details were released.

The county’s first fatality from the novel coronavirus was also a woman in her 80s. That death was announced by county officials March 20 via Facebook Live.

According to the health department’s website, at least 71 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in eastern Jackson County as of Wednesday. Two have recovered from the disease.

In Missouri, at least 1,581 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and at least 18 have died. The number of deaths reported by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services on Wednesday afternoon does not appear to include the second death announced in Jackson County.
