Johnson County officials said they have confirmed, on a preliminary basis, an additional case of the novel coronavirus that brings the county’s total to 11 Wednesday morning.

County spokeswoman Lori Sand declined to provide details on the new case, which is the 19th case in Kansas so far.

The state’s first confirmed case of COVID-19 was reported in Johnson County. That patient was a woman under 50 who had traveled to the northeast United States.

The rapidly spreading virus has infected more than 4,000 people across the country, with cases in every state, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly signed an executive order Tuesday halting mortgage forclosures and rent evictions during the global pandemic.

16 cases, including one in Jackson County, have been confirmed in Missouri. However, in a news conference Tuesday, Gov. Mike Parson said he would leave to local officials any decisions to close schools and bars.
