Massive Johnson County restaurant, taproom now has tentative opening date
Big Grove Brewery — an Iowa-based brewery and restaurant — is opening its new taproom in Johnson County this spring.
The brand announced its updated timeline for Prairie Village location on Monday, saying it’s now targeting a May 21 grand opening at 7060 Mission Road, according to a release from the company.
In preparation for the opening, Big Grove is hosting hiring events at downtown Kansas City’s Indigo Hotel, in the Brookfield Room, at the following times:
• Monday, April 6: noon to 7 p.m.
• Tuesday, April 7: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Wednesday, April 8: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The plan is to get staff into the space by early May. The goal is to begin soft openings around May 14 and 15, with a grand opening later that month.
Big Grove first announced last year that it was making its way to the Kansas City market. Initially, the company said it would open in the fall of 2026.
Bryan Farrell, director of marketing with Big Grove, told The Star that the Johnson County location will be 10,000 to 12,000 square feet. It will have a full patio and kids’ play area.
“We feel very comfortable with where we’re at with the opening timeline,” Farrell said.
Big Grove will take over a portion of the former Macy’s building in The Shops of Prairie Village, which closed in 2020. The site will also be home to a Hen House, relocating from its nearby spot at 6950 Mission Road, and a GOLFTRK indoor golf experience.
Big Grove started in 2013 by opening a 3.5-barrel brewhouse in Solon, Iowa. It now has taprooms in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Des Moines and Omaha.
The brand boasts of being one of the “fastest-growing craft breweries” in the Midwest. It’s been on a steady path of expansion for the past few years, according to Iowa news outlet The Gazette.
Further details about the brewery’s grand opening date will be shared on their social media and website.
