Coming to Kansas City area in 2026: This fast-growing Iowa-based brewery
A rapidly expanding Iowa-based brewery will soon make its debut in the Kansas City area.
Big Grove Brewery announced Monday that its first location in the KC metro — and sixth overall — is slated to open in summer 2026.
While the company did not detail the exact address of its new spot, the taproom will open on the Kansas side of the metro, according to reporting from Iowa news outlet The Gazette.
Big Grove did not immediately respond to The Star’s request for comment Tuesday.
It has spots in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Des Moines and Solon.
The company will open a location in Omaha, Nebraska, this summer, marking its first taproom location out of state. It recently opened Big Grove Coffee Co. in Omaha, hoping to capture an ever-growing market of non-drinkers.
Big Grove distributes its products in six different states.
The brand boasts of being one of the “fastest-growing craft breweries” in the Midwest. It’s been on a steady path of expansion for the past few years, according to The Gazette.
“We believe the best way to grow is by growing together,” Doug Goettsch, co-founder of Big Grove Brewery, said in a news release. “Our team members are the soul of this company, and offering them this opportunity to build equity in their stores is one of the most meaningful ways we can invest back into our people.”
Big Grove opened its first brewery with “elevated” pub-style cuisine in Solon in 2013, according to the company. Four years later, it opened an 8,000-square-foot production facility. Its Des Moines spot opened in 2022, with Cedar Rapids following suit in 2023.
The company has won awards from the Great American Beer Festival for its hazy IPA, Citrus Surfer Fruited Wheat and Festbier, a Bavarian-style Märzen.
While menu options vary by location, some of its other spots offer wings, mac and cheese, Parmesan fries, a brewpub burger, a spring vegetable Caesar salad, a variety of pizzas and several other menu options.
Locally owned KC Bier Co. is also planning expansion in the metro, with its Bavarian-style Biergarten planned to open in Lenexa at West 98th Street and Ridgeview Road in 2026.
