Tim Hortons has ‘temporarily’ closed its only KC-area location. What’s next?
Tim Hortons, a Canadian doughnut and coffee brand, has closed its only location in the Kansas City area. For now, at least.
Signs on the Blue Springs location at 1900 NW Highway 7 indicate the restaurant is “temporarily closed.”
“We will see you soon. Thank you,” reads a note on the door of the spot, which opened last June.
When The Star asked Tim Hortons whether it would reopen the spot, the brand sent a written statement .
“At Tim Hortons, we have high expectations for all our restaurants to ensure guests always have the great experience we are known for around the world,” the statement reads.
“We remain committed to the Kansas City market and we’re actively seeking a new franchise partner to bring Tim Hortons back in a way that reflects the very best of our brand. We apologize to our guests in the community for the inconvenience and hope to be serving them again soon.”
Tim Hortons did not respond to any further questions from The Star.
Not long after opening the Blue Springs location, the brand announced a spot in Crown Center. Several other spots were teased around the metro, though it’s unclear where the brand stands on opening those locations today.
The chain began in Ontario in 1964. It opened its first U.S. location in Buffalo, New York, in 1984. Today, it’s the largest chain in Canada (there’s a Tim Hortons for every 10,000 Canadians) . Tim Hortons has 6,000 locations globally and is rapidly expanding across the U.S., where it has more than 600 stores.
Popular items include a double double (coffee with two creams and two sugars) and timbits, which are Tim Hortons’ version of doughnut holes.
