A ‘modern, feel-good’ restaurant is opening in Johnson County. What to know

In an increasingly health-conscious market, another holistic restaurant is making its way to the KC metro area.

Flower Child — an Arizona-based chain that markets itself as a “modern, feel-good” spot — is opening its first metro location in Prairie Village. It’ll open in Corinth Square at 3915 W. 83rd St.

The restaurant’s 45th U.S. location is expected to open its Johnson County spot this summer.

The brand offers customizable salads, bowls, wraps and more that can be altered to fit “all lifestyles and palates,” according to a release from the company.

Menu items include the Mediterranean chicken kabob bowl (summer squash, portobello mushroom, bell pepper, harissa, quinoa rice, yogurt sauce, greek salad), yellowfin tuna poke bowl (sushi rice, spicy tuna, snap pea, scallion, cucumber salad, pickled ginger, avocado, furikake and yuzu ponzu) and The Rebel “French dip” wrap (grass-fed steak, charred onion, arugula, creamy horseradish, fontina cheese and bone broth).

Gluten-free mac and cheese and chicken enchiladas are menu favorites, the brand said.

The Prairie Village spot, which features an open kitchen and patio, will offer to-go, dine-in, pickup and delivery.

Flower Child is owned by Fox Restaurant Concepts, the company behind Wildflower American Cuisine, The Arrogant Butcher, Olive & Ivy and several other restaurants.

“Our team is looking forward to introducing Flower Child to Kansas residents for the first time,” Dave Luz, divisional vice president of operations for Flower Child, said in the release.. “Opening our doors in Prairie Village feels like a natural fit with the neighborhood’s strong sense of community and its appreciation for a vibrant, high-quality way of life, aligning perfectly with Flower Child’s healthy food for a happy world mission.”

This is the company’s first location in Kansas. It’s held a spot in St. Louis since 2024.

Fox Restaurant Concepts owner Sam Fox grew up in the restaurant industry, His parents owned several restaurants in Tucson. He opened his first concept, Wildflower American Cuisine, in 1992 at age 21 after dropping out of college.

Restaurant industry publications have been noting for the past few years that consumers are choosing healthier options at higher prices. Health concepts such as Modern Market Eatery and Saladworks have recently entered the KC market.

Health cafe Toastique announced last year that it would open at 6445 W. 135th St. in Overland Park. An update for that spot was not immediately available Friday.
