New Johnson County ramen shop opens, replacing Mexican restaurant
It’s been a busy month at Kiwami Ramen & Sushi.
Manager Evelyn Lin said it took a little bit for customers to find out that the spot at 7305 W. 95th St. had opened.
A couple weeks in, though, they’re now filling tables for lunch and dinner.
Kiwami lives in the old Ixtapa Fine Mexican Cuisine space in Overland Park, serving a variety of Japanese dishes.
Head chef Quan Bin Yang was a ramen chef in Japan for 10 years before working at Kiwami. He offers miso ramen, seafood ramen, spicy beef ramen and more.
On the sushi side, Kiwami serves an Angry Dragon Roll (shrimp tempura, avocado, lobster, eel sauce and spicy mayo), Captain Crunch Roll (shrimp tempura, crab, cucumbers, avocado and sweet sauce) and more.
Lin said Kiwami’s bento boxes are especially popular. They come with a choice of two entrees: chicken katsu, shrimp tempura, fried oyster, salmon teriyaki and more.
Kiwami is open 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4 to 10 p.m. Fridays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.
Ixtapa closed the spot in March after an increase in rent and other restaurant costs proved to be too much for owner Victor Esqueda. He still has a location in the Northland at 7103 N.W. Barry Road.
