Ixtapa Fine Mexican Cuisine has closed its Overland Park location.

The restaurant announced on social media Wednesday that it had permanently closed “due to unforeseen events.”

The location at 7305 W. 95th St. was open for less than five years. Ixtapa has operated its Northland spot, 7103 NW Barry Road, since 2004. That location remains open.

Owner Victor Esqueda told The Star on Thursday that rent increases and rising food prices contributed to the closing. The price of steak, for example, has almost doubled in less than two years.

Esqueda said he’s grateful for his customers who supported his business.

“We treat customers more like friends, like family,” he said.

In its post, Ixtapa teased a “new dining and culinary experience coming soon.”

Esqueda said he’s planning to open a fast-casual concept in Johnson County, “something according to the times,” but he doesn’t have concrete details yet.

The Northland spot sells enchiladas, molcajete, steak, tacos, seafood and more. Its hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.
