Tortilla Flats, a Gladstone staple for Mexican food for more than three decades, will close Friday.

Owner Fernando Martinez could not be reached for comment, but an employee working Thursday said the closure was due to declining sales in recent years.

The Northland restaurant, which served classic Mexican dishes like fajitas, flautas and enchiladas, opened at 5716 NE Antioch Road in 1990.

Tortilla Flats joins several sit-down Mexican restaurants that have closed in the past year. Ixtapa Fine Mexican Cuisine closed in Overland Park earlier this week. Jose Pepper’s closed its Legends Outlets location in January. Los Cabos closed in Independence in October. And On the Border closed three metro locations last spring.
