Openings & Closings

Kansas City area Mexican restaurant chain has closed this location after 10 years

Jose Pepper’s has closed its location at Legends Outlets.

The Mexican restaurant’s last day at 1851 Village West Parkway in Kansas City, Kansas, was Thursday, Jan. 9. It opened in 2014.

“We are immensely grateful for the warm welcome and unwavering support we’ve received from our loyal patrons over the years,” said Jody Sight, a spokeswoman for the local chain.

“We are also pleased to share that all of our dedicated staff will be transitioning to positions at our new Cactus Grill Lenexa location or at an existing Jose Peppers location of their choice,” Sight added.

Cactus Grill and Jose Pepper’s share ownership. Ed Gieselman opened the first Jose Pepper’s in 1988 at 103rd and Metcalf Avenue and quickly expanded to multiple locations in the area, serving Tex-Mex fare like nacho fritos chimichangas, spinach enchiladas, and tequila shrimp tacos. Gieselman opened the first Cactus Grill in 1993 in Leawood.

Jose Pepper’s closed its Mission restaurant in November. There remain nine Jose Pepper locations in Missouri and Kansas, and three Cactus Grills, all in Johnson County.
