Construction is scheduled to begin Monday on a Truman Medical Center primary care clinic connected to the YMCA of Greater Kansas City’s renovated facility at 3800 E. Linwood Blvd.

Truman officials have scheduled a 10 a.m. groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate University Health at the Linwood Y, which is part of the YMCA of Greater Kansas City’s ongoing effort to merge health care for chronic conditions like diabetes, arthritis and high blood pressure with its existing wellness programs.

“I have long said that health care shouldn’t just happen within the four walls of a hospital,” said Truman CEO, Charlie Shields. “Truman Medical Centers has been working for years to get out into the community with neighborhood clinics and at grocery stores. But this is the first time we will be providing care in a YMCA.”

The 7,000-square-foot clinic is expected to open late this year. Its construction and the renovation of the YMCA were funded with a mix of public and private financing.
