Man found shot and killed on Interstate 49 near Red Bridge Road early Friday morning
Police found a 47-year-old man shot and killed outside of a vehicle on Interstate 49 early Friday morning.
On Monday, Kansas City police identified the victim as Stacey Witherspoon.
Officers responded to a shooting call just before 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-49 north of Red Bridge Road where they found a white SUV on the side of the highway and Witherspoon outside, according to the Kansas City Police Department.
Police spoke with two other people who were inside the vehicle. It’s not clear if the shooting occurred inside or outside of the vehicle.
The interstate was closed for several hours while police investigated.
This was the 35th homicide in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star.
