A wintry mix hits the Kansas City region this weekend. Here’s where snow is likely

A storm system moving into the Kansas City area will bring a wintry mix this weekend, FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter said.

Despite an increase in cloud coverage, the weather should be dry during the day on Friday, said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. Temperatures should stay in the upper 40s and lower 50s.

“As we head into this evening’s forecast, we’re going to be watching our next storm system approach,” Ritter said. “And it is going to bring with it a chance for rain, as well as a chance of a wintry mix, and for some of you, some snowfall.”

Ritter said that a cold rain and possibly sleet could hit Kansas City approaching midnight Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, areas south of the Missouri River will see mostly rain while areas north of the river should see snow.

“The best chance for measurable snow is going to stay across northern parts of Missouri,” Ritter said. “We can’t rule out some wintry mix or some snow flakes in addition to that cold rain here in town Saturday morning through the afternoon.”

How we did this story

The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.

Ritter said it should start to dry out by Saturday evening. Then, a “much drier second half to our weekend” begins on Sunday when temperatures move up into the upper 40s.

Temperatures should stick around in the middle 50s and 60s next week.
