KC police chief bemoans number of domestic violence cases after man charged with sister’s murder

After a man was arrested and charged with his sister’s murder, Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forté on Sunday evening bemoaned the number of domestic violence cases police investigate.

Police found the woman’s body about 9:45 a.m. Saturday inside a home in the 5500 block of Paloma Avenue. Police had gone to the home on a report of a cutting.

About 4 p.m., police said they had arrested a person of interest outside the home.

Late Sunday evening, Forté tweeted that the woman’s brother had been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

He then tweeted that domestic violence cases occur far too often.

“We need to identify & help those who are afraid,” Forté said. “Get involved.”

The woman’s identity has not been released.

The woman’s death was the 49th homicide in Kansas City this year. The Kansas City area has seen 76 homicides so far in 2016.
