Hit-and-run driver leaves pedestrian dying on Prospect Ave.

Police are looking for witnesses to help explain a hit-and-run accident that left a man dying on the street Sunday night.

A fatally wounded man was discovered on Prospect Avenue near 37th Street around 4:45 p.m., and it appeared he had been hit by a vehicle traveling north on Prospect.

But no one had remained at the scene and the police had no vehicle description Sunday night. The man was taken to a hospital where he died.

It was the third pedestrian fatality since Friday night in Kansas City, and the second hit-and-run investigation.

Jyra D. Hill, 25, was killed by a hit-and-run vehicle around 11:15 p.m. Friday while she was in the crosswalk on Gregory Boulevard, crossing U.S. 71’s southbound lanes. In that case, police are looking for a black or dark blue SUV that is believed would have front-end damage from the crash.

Any one with information on any of these hit-and-run accidents is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
