Man guilty after no contest plea in 2015 murder of Overland Park teenager
A Kansas City, Kan., man scheduled to go to trial Monday instead pleaded no contest to a 2015 homicide in Overland Park.
Marquise D. Stokes, 20, pleaded no contest and was found guilty in Johnson County District Court to a charge of second-degree murder the June 2015 killing of Velik Henderson.
Henderson, 18, was fatally shot inside his residence in the 7800 block of West 61st Terrace.
A second teen, Trevon Anderson, 19, was killed in the same incident.
According to allegations in court documents, Stokes aided and abetted Anderson in an attempted robbery of Henderson. Henderson and Anderson shot each other during the incident, according to the documents.
Sentencing for Stokes is scheduled for Feb. 12.
