A second man was charged with murder Saturday in connection with a June 30 shooting in Overland Park that left two young men dead.

Marquise D. Stokes, 18, of Kansas City, Kan., was arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of 18-year-old Velik L. Henderson of Overland Park, who was killed along with 19-year-old Trevon D. Anderson of Kansas City, Kan.

Stokes had been sought by Overland Park detectives investigating the killings in the 7800 block of West 61st Terrace, which were followed six days later by the killing of a woman on the same block.

Earlier in the week, police arrested Donnell Cortez Preston, 18, in the same case. According to Johnson County prosecutors, both men were accused of killing Henderson while attempting to rob him.

Both Stokes and Preston were charged with murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary. Both remained in the Johnson County jail Saturday, with bond set at $2 million.

Six days after that double homicide, another killing occurred on the same block. Quaushey L. Harris, 36, and her 11-year-old daughter were shot by someone firing a semiautomatic rifle into their duplex. Harris died at a hospital. Her daughter’s injuries were not life-threatening.
