One defendant in She’s a Pistol gun shop shooting pleads guilty

One of four men charged in the She’s a Pistol gun shop shooting in Shawnee pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree murder and other charges.

Hakeem W. Malik, 20, was one of four men who prosecutors say intended to rob the gun shop Jan. 9, 2015, but failed when confronted by shop owner Jon Bieker, who was fatally injured in the subsequent shooting. Three of the would-be robbers were also wounded before Bieker died.

All four men were charged with first-degree murder. On Thursday, Malik pleaded guilty in Johnson County District Court to the murder count as well as charges of attempted aggravated robbery, conspiracy and aggravated battery.

Another defendant, 21-year-old Londro Emanuel Patterson III, was found guilty of the same charges May 19 after a trial.

Bieker and his wife, Becky, were co-owners of the shop at 5725 Nieman Road. Becky Bieker was assaulted, suffered a broken nose and briefly lost consciousness in the robbery attempt.

Surveillance cameras inside the shop recorded the incident.

Malik is scheduled to be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 25.

Two other defendants, Nicquan K. Midgyett, 21, and De’Anthony A. Wiley, 22, await trial.
