Man dies after being found shot in Westport

A man died after he was found shot on Saturday night near 41st and Mill streets in Kansas City’s Westport area.

Police officers were dispatched to the area just before 11:30 p.m. on a shots fired call. The found a male victim who had been shot. The Kansas City Fire Department transported the victim to a hospital, where he died. There was no suspect information as of early Sunday morning.

In September, a shooting in Westport left at least seven people injured.

According to Kansas City Police Department data on crimereports.com, there has been an average of 7.6 reports of varying kinds of assault per month in the immediate area surrounding the Westport entertainment district — the blocks south of West 39th Street and north of West 43rd Street and between Main and Summit streets.

Kansas City has recorded 95 homicides so far this year. The metropolitan area has seen 155 homicides in 2016.
