For Pete's Sake

Former Mill Valley High School and Olathe East players are in Chiefs rookie camp

Of the 87 players who are taking part in the Chiefs’ rookie minicamp, the vast majority won’t have an opportunity to stay with the team beyond Monday.

That’s the last day of the minicamp, but for those who won’t remain with the team, they’ll always have the memory of practicing with the Chiefs.

And for some, that will mean a little more than others. A few of the players at the rookie minicamp are from Kansas City-area high schools.

That includes former Kansas State kicker Chris Tennant, who grew up in Shawnee and played at Mill Valley High School and Kansas State. Tennant received a rookie tryout.

Also at Chiefs rookie minicamp is former Pitt defensive end Nate Matlack, who attended Olathe East High School. Matlack played for K-State after high school before transferring to Pittsburgh.

Matlack shared this photo to his Instagram story.

Former K-State linebacker Austin Moore, who played at Louisburg High School, is at rookie camp, too. This is from his Instagram account.

Former Central Missouri quarterback Zach Zebrowski is with the Chiefs. He is the son of Kansas Jayhawks offensive coordinator Jim Zebrowski.

Another former Mules player, offensive lineman Gabe Clark, also got a rookie minicamp invitation. He is from Lawrence and played at Free State High School.

Paxton DeLaurent, who played for Camdenton High School before going to Southeast Missouri State, also is at rookie camp.

My colleague, Jesse Newell, wrote about Jared Casey, who is in the Chiefs’ camp. He is from Plainville, Kansas, and was a standout for the Jayhawks.

Ex-Jayhawks safety Marvin Grant is taking part, too, as is former Kansas State wide receiver Dante Cephas. Long-snapper Trey Flint, linebacker Corey Flagg Jr. and safety Joseph Charleston, who all played for Mizzou, are at camp, as well.

Mahomes’ half-brother

Former Rice tight end Graham Walker, the half-brother of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, is taking part in the Chiefs’ camp. You can read more of his story here.
