Things unraveled quickly for the Royals in the sixth inning of their 4-2 loss Tuesday to the Yankees in New York.

New York led off the inning with an infield single before Royals starter Michael Wacha got two outs. The next two batters walked, loading the bases. Angel Zerpa replaced Wacha and walked in a run.

Jasson Dominguez followed with a bases-clearing double that capped the four-run inning. The only downside for Dominguez: He had to leave the game shortly after his clutch hit because he had taken such a big swing on the double.

Dominguez hit himself in the head with his bat and knocked his helmet into his face.

“I took him out because he lost his contacts (lenses),” Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters after the game.

Dominguez said of the contacts: “I think when the helmet was in my face, I think that’s when I lost it.”

That might be a first in MLB history: a player leaving a game because he knocked out his own contact lenses.
