An off-handed comment made by reality television star Wes Bergmann generated headlines across the country this week.

Bergmann, who lives in the same Leawood neighborhood as Travis Kelce, said on the Social Game podcast that he knew about the Chiefs star’s relationship with superstar singer Taylor Swift well before others.

“I beat the validating of her showing up to games by like six months,” Bergmann said on the podcast, which is hosted by Michele Fitzgerald and Kellie Nalbandian.

That seemed like an odd comment since Swift first appeared at a Chiefs game in September 2023, roughly two months after Kelce first unsuccessfully tried to meet the superstar singer at her Arrowhead Stadium concert.

And, Kelce didn’t buy his mansion in Bergmann’s neighborhood until October 2023.

Still, outlets like People, Life&Style and the New York Post all wrote stories based on Bergmann’s timeline.

There was so much attention paid to Bergmann’s comment, which was made last month, that he issued an apology on Tuesday.

“Omg y’all I’m so sorry and confused,” Bergmann, a Blue Valley North graduate, wrote on X.

“Everything being reported on is none of my business. My contribution to this was taken out of context and said in what I thought was relative obscurity, but it obviously wasn’t.

“He moved in November, that’s all I know. I told Michele, who is a giant fan, hey this is serious. She didn’t believe me for six months. That was the intention of the comment. Again it was taken out of context but I shouldn’t be talking about it anyway. So consider this the last time I do.”
