Chiefs fans held their collective breath Sunday night when the Bills forced Kansas City to a field goal in the fourth quarter.

The good news was Harrison Butker’s 45-yard field goal broke a tie and gave the Chiefs a 32-29 lead.

The worrisome news was Buffalo had the ball with 3 minutes, 33 seconds left in the game. Was this going to be Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s time to finally break through against the Chiefs?

That thought was going through the mind of Chiefs general manager Brett Veach, who had made a specific prediction before kickoff. And he thought his words were going to end up jinxing the Chiefs.

“I joked with my family before the game. I said, the first one to 35 wins this game,” Veach said Sunday after the game. “When it was (32-29) I was so nervous because I (thought), ‘God, I hope I’m not right.’ They had the ball there at the end. I’m like, ‘Oh my God. They’re going to score 35 points.’”

Those fears weren’t realized as the Chiefs defense gave up one first down but stopped the Bills. The Chiefs offense was then able to pick up two first downs and run out the clock.

And then the celebration was on at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
