Singer Michael Bublé recounts how he became a Chiefs fan and why he loves this team
Whether it’s because of the Chiefs’ incredible success or the amazing play of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the reach of Chiefs Kingdom continues to grow.
That includes multiple celebrities who have publicly shared their love of the Chiefs, including a world-famous singer. Well, make that two.
Chiefs fans know about Taylor Swift, who is dating tight end Travis Kelce. But crooner Michael Bublé is a big Chiefs fan, too, and he was at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday to watch KC’s 32-29 win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game.
Bublé was in the Chiefs locker room following the win and I asked how he became a fan. It wasn’t a result of the Chiefs’ phenomenal success. It was because of their kindness and one of the team’s most-famous fans.
“There’s this dude named Eric Stonestreet,” Bublé said, “and I had come to tour here (in 2019), and he said, ‘Why don’t you come by and meet some of the Chiefs?’ And I was like, ‘OK, sure.’ I came down and fell in love with everybody. (General manager) Brett Veach and I started to talk. ...
“I had one of the greatest moments of my life, as a matter of fact, when I got to come down and just chuck spirals and run routes with Patrick and Trav and everybody. And I mean, I got to meet all these guys, coaches, executives, and it was impossible for me not to cheer for them.”
Stonestreet was in the locker room with Bublé as they greeted players celebrating another trip to the Super Bowl.
Bublé, a five-time Grammy Award winner who is a coach on “The Voice,” played a show in the United Arab Emirates on Jan. 16, but had promised Veach he’d be at Arrowhead on Sunday.
“So I’ve been following them, and we’ve talked for like four years over and over again. Brett said to me, ‘Dude, are you coming?’ And I had a show a couple of weeks ago, I wrote him and I said, ‘Listen, if you go past this first round, I’m coming home. I’m showing up.’
“Then I had to tell my wife, ‘Hey, Mama, we’re taking the kids and we’re going to Kansas City.’ So they’re here. I came with my two sons, and my wife said, ‘I’m going to Target with your daughters.’ So right now, she’s at Target and I’m here in the dressing room having the best day. I’m so happy.”
Dining in KC
Bublé also took his family to dine at Farina over the weekend.
Bublé was on cloud nine Sunday after watching his Chiefs beat Buffalo and being in the middle of the celebration. And he was happy for Kansas City to be able to celebrate the Chiefs’ success.
While he’s on a group text with celebrity Chiefs fans Paul Rudd and Stonestreet, Bublé also has buddies who are big-time Eagles fans.
That’s who the Chiefs will face in Super Bowl LIX. Will Bublé be going to New Orleans for the game?
“Can you talk to my wife?” Bublé quipped. “I don’t know. I don’t know if I’m doing ‘The Voice’ or what I’m doing, you know what? I might be coming. This is huge, man.
“And by the way, a lot of my best friends are huge Eagles fans, and we argue all the time, and so I don’t think anything could be much sweeter than the fact that that story is coming. I’ll be watching. I’ll be there in spirit and mind.”
Bublé paused for a beat.
“Again,” he said, “can you talk to my wife?”
