If the Chiefs make another deep run in the playoffs, tight end Travis Kelce could put one NFL record out of reach for future players.

Kelce already is the record holder for career postseason receptions with 165. That’s already 14 more than second-place Jerry Rice, the former San Francisco 49ers star. Ex-Patriots receiver Julian Edelman is third on the list with 118. Tyreek Hill is the only other active player in the top 10 and he’s fifth with 96.

If the Chiefs make another deep postseason run, Kelce will pad an already impressive lead in that category, making it difficult for anyone to one day catch him.

Kelce also is on the cusp of three other NFL playoff records.

Rice is the all-time leader with 2,245 receiving yards in his postseason career. No. 2 on the list is Kelce at 1,903 yards. That means Kelce can ascend to No. 1 on the list with 343 receiving yards in the playoffs.

Edelman is third on the list with 1,442 receiving yards in postseason games.

The career postseason record for touchdown receptions is 22, which is held by Rice. Kelce is second on that list, too. He has 19 in his playoff career. Rob Gronkowski is third with 15.

Additionally, Rice is atop the list of touchdowns scored in postseason history with 22. That’s regardless of how the touchdown was scored (rushing or receiving).

A pair of former running backs are second on the list: Emmitt Smith, who played for Dallas, and Thurman Thomas, the ex-Bills star. Both scored 21 touchdowns. Kelce is third with 19 and could break that record, too.

Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame noted that since the start of 2020, Kelce has 113 receptions, 1,271 yards and 13 touchdowns in 13 playoff games. It’s simply an incredible stretch of postseason play for Kelce.
