Video shows Andy Reid’s pointed message for Chiefs after close win over Carolina
Kansas City fans were not feeling particularly encouraged Sunday about the Chiefs’ last-second 30-27 win over the Panthers in Charlotte.
The Chiefs, who were coming off their first loss of the season a week earlier, came out strong and held a two-touchdown lead late in the first half against Carolina.
But the Panthers came back and tied the game with 1 minute, 46 seconds left in regulation.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes had an answer. He moved the Chiefs 57 yards and into field-goal range, and Spencer Shrader’s 37-yard kick won it.
The Chiefs shared a video of coach Andy Reid’s message to the team in the locker room on Sunday. There was more emotion in Reid’s voice than usual as he delivered a stirring speech to the Chiefs.
Reid noted the difficulty of winning — and that the Chiefs, as two-time defending Super Bowl champions, have a bull’s-eye on their backs.
The message from Reid was pointed: There are no bad losses in the NFL.
“So look, I don’t want to see anybody hanging their head, men,” Reid said. “This league is crazy. That’s the way this thing goes. You saw it yesterday with college football. Nothing’s given to you. And you’re getting their best shot.
“So you keep your heads up, men. And you get this thing rolling. We’ve got some things we’ve got to clean up. But we keep it rolling here. That’s the important part. Winning is the important part right here. And you guys beared down and got it done.”
