Let’s turn the clock back 14 months and think about the first time superstar singer Taylor Swift attended a Chiefs game.

Rumors had been swirling about her dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and that was confirmed on Sept. 24, 2023. The Chiefs crushed the Chicago Bears 41-10 that day in Swift’s return to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium — but this time she was there as a fan.

Swift wore a Chiefs jacket that day and didn’t hold back while cheering for Kelce and his teammates. It didn’t take a lip reader to know she screamed “Let’s go!” after a touchdown, when CBS Sports cameras showed her reaction.

Fans have since caught her adding “home of the Chiefs” when singing the national anthem from a stadium suite. She’s also been stressed during games, like any other fan, and she joined in the “Swag Surfin’” celebration at a game last year.

In short: Swift might be a billionaire singer who has fans around the world, but when it comes to a Chiefs game, she acts just like anyone else cheering on the team.

That is why Chiefs president Mark Donovan believes KC fans have embraced Swift as one of their own. He shared some thoughts Wednesday on the CNBC “Squawk Box” podcast.

“I’d love to say that it was a marketing strategy, but it is an authentic relationship, and we’re happy to have it, and it’s been nothing but good for us,” Donovan said of Swift.

“I think the best thing I can say about the whole relationship, of the impact it’s had on us, is Taylor Swift is an authentic member of the Kansas City Chiefs kingdom. She’s an authentic fan, and that matters to our fans and our fan base, and it matters to us, and we tried to respect that.”
