Chiefs fans love change Taylor Swift made in singing national anthem: ‘She’s one of us’
Ask a sports fan to close her/his eyes and then play the national anthem from a random sporting event, and it would be difficult to know where the game was being played.
But there is one notable exception.
There’s no question you’re at a Chiefs game when the national anthem is played because of how it ends. While the performer sings “Home of the brave,” fans in Kansas City* finish it with “Home of the Chieeeeefs.”
*You’ll hear it that way at other sporting events in KC, but never quite as loud as at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium
One of the newest members of Chiefs Kingdom has learned this adaptation of the “Star-Spangled Banner.” Superstar singer Taylor Swift, who has attended four Chiefs games this season since she began dating tight end Travis Kelce, has been caught on video singing the anthem Kansas City style.
This video from X user Ana was from before the Chiefs’ 31-17 win over the Chargers on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. It shows that Swift has got it down when the anthem is played at a Chiefs game.
That apparently wasn’t the first time someone noted Swift adding “Home of the Chiefs” to the end of the anthem.
She also did it ahead of the Chiefs’ victory over the Jets at MetLife Stadium earlier this month. Here is video from X user Chiefs Girl.
Chiefs fans love that Swift has changed the way she was singing the anthem. Here is a sample of what they were sharing on social media.
