A pair of Kansas City Royals games will air on YouTube this season — and maybe more
Kansas City Royals games will be seen on a variety of platforms this season.
Most will air on Bally Sports Kansas City, but they’ll also be shown on Apple+ and Peacock, which is NBC’s streaming service.
And now you can add YouTube to the mix. Major League Baseball announced last week the “MLB Game of the Week Live on YouTube” will return for a fourth season.
Nearly half of the 15 games that will be streamed on YouTube this season have been announced, and two involve the Royals. They are games on June 1 at the Cleveland Guardians (12:10 p.m. Central time start) and June 8 against the Toronto Blue Jays (1:10 p .m. start) at Kauffman Stadium.
Because these games are exclusive to YouTube, those games will not air on Bally Sports Kansas City.
A story on Major League Baseball’s website said the YouTube games will include a “live chat featuring game commentary from MLB superfan YouTube creators” and there will be in-game polls.
“We value our continued partnership with YouTube and the opportunity to build on the experience the MLB Game of the Week on YouTube brings to fans,” Dominick Balsamo, MLB’s Senior Vice President for Global Media and Business Development, sand on the league website. “YouTube’s creative approach to fan engagement lets viewers feel like they are a part of the broadcast, and we look forward to another season of bringing fans closer to the game through their unique presentation.”
Because not all of the YouTube games have been announced, it’s possible more Royals games could air on that platform.
But for now, five Royals contests will be streaming this season:
April 29: vs. New York Yankees (Apple+)
June 1: at Cleveland Guardians (YouTube)
June 8: vs. Toronto Blue Jays (YouTube)
July 3: at Detroit Tigers (Peacock)
June 17: at Toronto Blue Jays (Peacock)
