Josh Allen wants ‘throw-off’ with Patrick Mahomes, but oddsmakers favor Chiefs QB
Football is a team sport, but Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is eager for a head-to-head competition with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Both signal callers possess big arms, and Mahomes said last month he wants to have a “throw-off” with Allen to see who can launch a football the farthest.
During Wednesday’s “Good Morning Football,” Allen said a “throw-off” competition would have happened this summer but was postponed.
“We’re working on it,” Allen said. “We had something in place actually that was supposed to be going this summer but obviously some COVID-19 restrictions had that kind of shut down. But yes, I’m game.
“Pat has got obviously one of the strongest arms in the league. ... Just the things he can do on the football field right now, it’s pretty unbelievable to watch.”
Mahomes, the Super Bowl MVP, said he threw a ball 85 yards once, while Allen has unleaded an 80-yard throw.
“I mean I have ultimate belief in myself. He does have a strong arm, but if I put it out there like 80, 85 yards,” Mahomes said last month, “I mean, if he beats that, he just beats it.”
Allen has been impressed with Mahomes has accomplished in his first three years in the NFL.
“Congrats to him and what he’s been able to accomplish there. I’m a big fan of his and his game and his play style,” Allen said.
“I’d love to finally settle this and figure it out, but we’ll have to make sure that whatever the case may be, it’s going to a good cause and there’s some charity involved with it, because I know he’s got his 15 and the Mahomies charity and foundation, so we’ll figure out a way where we can do this for sure.”
Oddsmakers already have weighed in on a Mahomes-Allen showdown.
SportsBetting.ag is offering four bets on a “throw-off” competition.
It noted Mahomes threw a football 60 mph at the NFL Combine, while Allen reach 62 mph, so the Bills quarterback is slightly favored if there is a fastest throw contest (Allen is minus-130; Mahomes is plus-100). The over/under is 60.5 mph on a throw.
As for the longest throw, Mahomes is the favorite at minus-140. Allen is plus-110. The over/under for a longest throw is 83.5 yards.
