Alex Smith’s wife crushed Gary Lezak on Twitter
When Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith left Sunday’s game against the Colts with a head injury, Nick Foles took over.
The Chiefs signed Foles before the season and made a lot of Chiefs fans happy, because Foles has had success in the past, particularly with the Eagles.
KSHB (Cha. 41) meteorologist/sports fan Gary Lezak was not happy that there was no penalty on the hit to Smith, but he also felt good that Foles was the Chiefs’ backup. This is what he shared on Twitter:
How is that not a penalty? Someone explain? https://t.co/1oIQEYbgUh

Nick Foles for the @Chiefs once threw 7 TD passes in one NFL game and he had one of the rare perfect QB ratings in a game. Go Chiefs!

Smith returned and was injured again and left, and Foles threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill. Lezak then tweeted this:
That play does NOT happen with Alex Smith! TD @Chiefs
— Gary Lezak (@glezak) October 30, 2016
That made a number of fans irate, and Lezak even responded to one.
@noseycat14 Not that. Just saying.....but having a receiver catch a TD pass in stride just doesn't happen with Alex.

I guess at this point, Alex Smith’s wife, Elizabeth, had seen enough. She offered this rebuke to Lezak:
@glezak @Chiefs Do yourself and everyone else a favor. Stick to what you know. It's embarrassing.

When Lezak became aware of the tweet from Mrs. Smith, he appeared to backtrack a bit. This is what he tweeted to her:
@KCBLuesAndFood @lizbsmith11 Elizabeth, Not saying Alex isn't the best Chiefs QB. I am fully supportive and I hope he is OK! Big Chiefs fan!
— Gary Lezak (@glezak) October 30, 2016
Elizabeth Smith then reminded us all that these pro athletes we watch are people and most have a family that loves and cares for them. She had this series of tweets:
@glezak Thanks Gary! Truth is I have listened to countless rants you've had on Alex. I'm ok with your opinion. Everyone is entitled to one.

@glezak I have a hard time capitalizing on an injury. My kids and I sit and watch Alex lay on a field not knowing what's happening.

@glezak For you to make a comment then is bad timing. I appreciate your apology. Have a good night
