  • Mahomes and Kelce launched 1587 Prime, a steakhouse with strong VIP demand
  • Autographed football invitations created buzz and boosted celebrity interest
  • Public reservations filled fast; hours expanded ahead of Sept. 17 opening

How do you invite VIPs to the opening of a Kansas City steakhouse co-owned by two NFL stars?

Send them an autographed football.

Invitations have gone out to the private opening of 1587 Prime, the football-themed steakhouse co-owned by Chiefs players and buddies Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

The lucky few have received boxes containing paper invitations and footballs autographed in gold pen by the two Super Bowl champs.

Reservations opened last week to the public and went so fast the restaurant this week added an additional day and expanded its hours.

We can imagine reactions to the VIP invites have been as giddy as that of comedian Adam Ray, because several recipients have posted photos of their invites to “a night of gifted VIP service.”

That’s how we know the guest list includes Big Slick co-hosts Eric Stonestreet and Rob Riggle, former LPGA golfer Michelle Wie West, former Royals star Whit Merrifield, former NFL player Marcus “Swagu” Spears, former tennis star Jack Sock, sportscasters Erin Andrews, Tracy Wolfson and Kaylee Hartung, long-time Kelce friend Aric Jones and assorted FOBs.

That’s Friends of Brittany (Mahomes).

“Can we make our ... reservation for Christmas Eve dinner now?” Hartung wrote on the photo she posted to Instagram Stories.

The restaurant opens Sept. 17, which happens to be Mahomes’ 30th birthday, less than two weeks after the Chiefs open their season in Brazil.

The two-story steakhouse at 1500 Baltimore Ave., a partnership with global hospitality group Noble 33, is tucked inside the Loews Kansas City hotel.

The collectible footballs that special guests received have letters of authenticity that show that at least some of the balls were signed back in May. It’s not known whether any of them will be sold to the public.

Ray, a frequent celebrity guest at the annual Big Slick fundraiser for Children’s Mercy, posted a video of his reaction when he received his:

“Got a box from Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, shoutout to my boys. They’re opening a new restaurant in Kansas City. They sent me a box. Let’s do an unboxing.”

Inside: an autographed football inside an acrylic box. He got a QR code and a password with details of the event, too.

“This is like the golden ticket! I feel like Charlie Bucket,” he exclaimed, kicking up his heels in excitement at getting a Willie Wonka-like prize.

Examining the football he said, “signed by Pat and Travis. Could be Andy Reid and Tom Bergeron. Either way I’m fired up. Guys, congrats. Trav, congrats on your engagement. Mazel. Wow.

“I’m excited. I’m going to eat steak. Check. Potatoes. Check. Asparagus. Hope you have it. No olive oil, I’m allergic. ... We’ll see you there Pat and Trav.”

His meal is guaranteed but the same can’t be said for most anyone else trying to get a reservation at this point.

The restaurant announced Wednesday that, as of Oct. 7, it will begin service at 4:30 p.m. and be open on Tuesdays. (The restaurant will be closed Mondays.) Those reservations are now available.

Stonestreet, a passionate fan and supporter of Kansas City sports, shared his VIP invite with his social media followers, joking that “fine, I’ll go to this.”

If he doesn’t, we know dozens who would take that handoff.
