Chiefs played one of Kendrick Lamar’s diss tracks Wednesday during Super Bowl practice
Rapper Kendrick Lamar will be playing the halftime show at Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, but the Chiefs players won’t be watching.
The Chiefs will take that time to strategize for the second half of their game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Not to worry, though. The Chiefs listened to a little Kendrick Lamar at practice Wednesday.
A pool report from Luke Johnson of the Pro Football Writers Association noted the first song on the Chiefs’ practice playlist was Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” That’s one of the diss tracks that was directed at Drake, and has “jabroni” in the lyrics.
It also was an award winner. “Not Like Us” won Grammys over the weekend for song of the year, record of the year, best rap song, best music video and best rap performance, the Hollywood Reporter noted.
The Chiefs followed that with Wipe Me Down” by Louisiana rappers Foxx, Webbie and Lil Boosie, per the NFL report.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid also had good things to say about the practice field at Tulane University’s Yulman Stadium.
“They did a phenomenal job with this,” Reid said in the pool report. “We appreciate that. And the people here at Tulane have been great. They rolled out the red carpets for us. It’s a good facility, all good there.”
That was noteworthy in part because the San Francisco 49ers took issue with the practice field at UNLV last year ahead of Super Bowl LVIII.
The Chiefs injury report included two names: quarterback Patrick Mahomes (ankle) and right tackle Jawaan Taylor (knee), but both were full participants.
Other notes from Wednesday’s session:
- Matt Araiza had a wind-aided punt that traveled an estimated 80 yards.
- Patrick Mahomes had just four incompletions in the roughly 90-minute session, and that included two drops.
- Fox Sports’ Kevin Burkhardt, Erin Andrews, Tom Rinaldi, Jimmy Johnson, Curt Menefee, Julian Edelman, Peter Schrager and Kristina Pink visited practice.
