Check out KFC restaurant decked out in Chiefs decor — 1,000 miles from Arrowhead
Have you been to those KFC restaurants decked out in red-and-gold booths with Kansas City Chiefs neon signs and huge Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce jerseys on the walls?
If you haven’t, maybe it’s because you don’t live in Mexico.
In the run-up to the Super Bowl this year, KFC has decked out six locations south of the border in football themes — NFL football, not soccer.
Spread across Mexico, they are “designed to immerse fans in the spirit of the NFL, with the Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers being the featured teams,” reports Marca, the Spanish-language sports newspaper that covers soccer.
“The Chiefs are getting the most attention, given their potential to compete in Super Bowl LIX on February 9 in New Orleans, Louisiana.”
The redecorated Chiefs locations in Monterrey and Puebla were unveiled last week, part of this latest KFC-NFL collaboration to build upon the league’s international fandom.
The customized “fits,” so to speak, will stay in place through Super Bowl Sunday, according to Marca.
Each restaurant is decorated in team colors and logos and includes a mini team helmet in each Big Box Meal. The two Steelers locations are decked out in black and gold.
The Monterrey location has been transformed into Chiefs Kingdom South, decorated in Kansas City’s team colors of red and gold with custom “Chiefs” light fixtures.
It also features memorabilia from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce, who is dating Taylor Swift.
And why are we not surprised to find a Swift reference in KFC Mexico’s marketing of the Chiefs locations?
One of its Instagram posts last week showed fans as little icons. The female blond icon was “my girl listening to Taylor.”
The dude-in-a-red-jersey icon was “me having chicken watching NFL.”
The Chiefs’ KFC restaurant, now on our bucket list.
