The Kansas City Chiefs are in the midst of a franchise-best start to the season — a season they and their legion of fans hope culminates in pro football’s first Super Bowl three-peat.
But the last two weeks should remind us that nothing is given in the NFL. The Chiefs (11-1) have stumbled at the end of two straight games, at the Carolina Panthers two weeks ago and on Black Friday at home against the Las Vegas Raiders. They won both, but these weren’t pretty victories.
Now comes the Chiefs’ second matchup of the season against Justin Herbert and the L.A. Chargers, another upset-hungry AFC West opponent that rolls into GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium for a Sunday evening showdown with the Chiefs.
It’s not just lax late-game defense that’s dogged the two-time defending league champs. Running back Isiah Pacheco returned from injury last week against the Raiders, but the KC running game never really found its footing in Week 13.
We’ve entered the home stretch of the 2024 regular season. And the Chiefs want to be as synced up as possible before embarking on a postseason run that’s poised to be unlike anything we’ve seen before.
