Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles: Commentary from Monday Night Football game

The NFL’s prime-time slate has been hit and miss so far this year, but that was never a question when a Super Bowl LVII rematch was scheduled for Monday Night Football.

Even in a sloppy game — at least for the Kansas City Chiefs’ offense — the Monday night contest had plenty of intrigue and came right down to the wire.

There were countless storylines to follow as the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles met at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Chiefs coach Andy Reid was set to face his former team, and brothers Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce squared off once again ... even without Taylor Swift in the stands.

Patrick Mahomes vs. Jalen Hurts made for a top-tier QB matchup, but it was actually the defense that became the story of the game. As in, the Eagles forced two turnovers in the red zone and eventually broke through against a KC defense that had dominated for much of Monday night.

Final score: Eagles 21, Chiefs 17.

It’s been a troubling trend for KC that the team’s offense hasn’t quite clicked — especially in short-yardage situations. Wide receiver drops were again an issue, and a defense that has thrived eventually gave up one-too-many scores.

The Eagles, on the other hand, found success with their patented “Brotherly Shove” (AKA the “Tush Push”), and their plenty-talented pass rush caused enough issues to finish off the win.
