Gehrig Dieter, who has been on and off the Kansas City Chiefs’ roster and practice squad since 2017, announced his retirement from football on Wednesday morning.

Dieter was waived by the Chiefs ahead of rookie minicamp last month.

“Thank you for everything KC,” Dieter posted on his Twitter account. “Been a crazy journey!”

The 29-year-old appeared in 10 regular-season games for the Chiefs while mostly contributing on special teams. He had two career catches for 32 yards.

Dieter also was well known in the past for being close friends with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The two were previously training camp roommates, while Mahomes was one of many Chiefs players who attended Dieter’s wedding in 2019.
