Room for one more? In Round 7, KC Chiefs pounce on their 3rd corner of 2022 NFL Draft
The Chiefs grabbed their third cornerback of the 2022 NFL Draft in Round 7 on Saturday.
With the 243rd overall pick, their first of three picks in the draft’s final round, the Chiefs selected Washington State cornerback Jaylen Watson.
The 6-foot-2, 197-pound Watson is a big defensive back who clocked a 4.51 time in the 40-yard dash at last month’s NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. In two seasons at Washington State, he totaled 44 tackles, two interceptions and five passes defensed.
Watson joins Trent McDuffie (drafted in Round 1 Thursday) and Joshua Williams (taken in Round 4 Saturday) as corners selected by the Chiefs through their first eight picks in this year’s draft.
Look for the Chiefs to expect Watson to compete for a roster spot and contribute on special teams if he makes the initial 53-player roster.
“He comes in and he fits in perfectly,” Chiefs area scout Greg Castillo said. “Confident, humble, loves the process, loves football.”
With their penultimate pick on Saturday, No. 251 in Round 7, the Chiefs selected Rutgers running back Isaih Pacheco. With their last pick, they took Marshall safety Nazeeh Johnson.
