Kansas City’s FIFA Fan Festival closes early due to severe weather
On top of The Chainsmokers’ concert being postponed because of predicted storms, the third day of Kansas City’s FIFA Fan Fest at the National World War I Museum & Memorial is also affected by the weather. After opening at 2, the festival is closing at 5 p.m., screens all across the grounds and security officers said. Hundreds of fans wearing Brazil jerseys in anticipation of their match against Morocco were seen walking toward the exit after the announcement. “Due to anticipated severe weather, FIFA Fan Festival is closing early at 5 p.m. and not reopening,” the screens say. “Safety is our top priority. Please follow instructions from on-site staff.” Remaining fans took their time leaving the grounds and stuck around to listen to DJ Doop’s set, which ran from 4 to 5 p.m.
“Unfortunately it is time for us to say goodbye for the afternoon,” said an organizer who appeared on the stage. “As always, safety is our top priority.”
An email from organizers noted that paid passes for the festival’s VIP areas are typically nonrefundable and nontransferable, though some ticket-holders have been able to move their passes due the Chainsmokers’ postponement.
