Mizzou basketball wanted former Michigan guard David DeJulius. He opts for Cincinnati

The Missouri Tigers and men’s basketball coach Cuonzo Martin dropped to 0-for-3 on the recruiting trail Thursday.

Michigan guard David DeJulius announced on his Twitter page that he’s headed to Cincinnati as an NCAA transfer to complete his final two years of college eligibility. He chose the Bearcats over three other finalists in recruiting for his services: Mizzou, Marquette and Iowa State.

DeJulius, a Detroit native, was expected to sit out a year because of NCAA transfer rules, first potentially suiting up for the 2021-22 season. He averaged 7 points and 2.4 rebounds with Michigan last season.

It’s another swing and miss for Martin’s program, which was looking for a boost this week in recruiting.

The Tigers were previously and recently spurned by Bowling Green transfer Justin Turner, who chose to stay with the Falcons. MU was a finalist, along with Marquette and Iowa State, in that process, too.

Missouri was also a finalist for five-star Josh Christopher, who on Monday committed to Arizona State, where his brother, Caleb, plays.

Where does that leave the Tigers? Still looking to fill their two scholarship spots. Mizzou returns nearly all of its contributors this fall but could use another scorer and shooter.
