Mizzou basketball slips again in recruiting, this time in five-star Josh Christopher
For the second time this week, Missouri coach Cuonzo Martin and his Tigers couldn’t lock down a commitment on a potential newcomer.
Five-star guard Josh Christopher, rated as the No. 10 overall recruit in the nation by 247Sports, chose Arizona State instead of Mizzou. He announced his decision Monday evening on Instagram.
Mizzou was listed as a finalist alongside USC, UCLA and Michigan, who was considered to be the heavy favorite in Christopher’s recruitment. His brother, Caleb, plays for the Sun Devils.
Christopher, who is also cousins with Mizzou strength coach Nicodemus Christopher, has been a target of Martin’s since he was an underclassman.
Martin will have to look elsewhere for help on the wings. The Tigers still have two scholarship spots remaining after Mario McKinney Jr. and Tray Jackson transferred.
Earlier in the day, Bowling Green graduate transfer Justin Turner elected to stay with the Falcons. Mizzou was one of his finalists alongside Iowa State and Marquette.
Mizzou is still in the mix for Michigan transfer David DeJulius, who’s reportedly set to announce his commitment Wednesday. The Tigers are battling Iowa State, Marquette and Cincinnati for the former four-star recruit.
The Tigers were in the top five for junior-college guard RayQuawndis Mitchell, but he committed to Illinois-Chicago. Mitchell reportedly did not get an offer from Mizzou.
