Kansas Jayhawks quarterback Jalon Daniels will be limited at spring football. Here’s why
Kansas Jayhawks quarterback Jalon Daniels underwent a successful “minor knee procedure” and will be a limited participant during spring practice.
It’s his second straight year that Daniels’ participation in spring practice — which starts March 2 — will be limited: He missed time last spring while recovering from a back injury sustained during the 2023 season.
That injury limited Daniels to playing in just three games in 2023. And that’s not the only other injury with which Daniels has dealt during his time with the Jayhawks. He missed multiple games in 2022 because of a shoulder injury.
Daniels, who chose to remain at KU for a final season in 2025, played a full 2024 season. But his performance was inconsistent. He finished strong after a slow start, throwing for 2,454 yards, 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also rushed for 447 yards and six touchdowns.
He has played a key role in KU’s football turnaround under head coach Lance Leipold. In 2022 season, Daniels helped lead the Jayhawks to their first bowl appearance since 2008.
The 2025 season is pivotal for Daniels, who harbors NFL aspirations but announced last month his plans to return to Lawrence. The Jayhawks have had a busy offseason, bringing in a new corps of wide receivers for his final autumn at Kansas.
Starting receivers Luke Grimm, Quentin Skinner and Lawrence Arnold all departed the program in December via graduation.
KU has added a bevy of new pass-catchers through the transfer portal: receivers Cam Pickett, Levi Wentz and Emmanuel Henderson Jr., as well as tight end Keyan Burnett. All four will join KU this spring. Columbia transfer WR Bryson Canty will join KU this summer.
