KC Mavericks update: Mavs split with Wichita Thunder, play video games for charity

After getting an early jump on the weekend with a road victory Friday, the Kansas City Mavericks minor-league hockey team lost Saturday and Sunday at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence.

With a little over a month left in the ECHL’s regular season, the Mavericks entered this week with a record of 27-26-1.

Game recaps

The Mavericks traveled to Wichita last Friday to take on the Thunder. The Mavericks beat the Thunder 2-1, getting goals from Garrett Clarke and Mike Lee.

The Iowa Heartlanders beat the Mavs 6-1 Saturday and the Thunder returned the favor of Friday’s outcome with a 5-3 Sunday decision on KC’s home ice.

Level Up

Member of the Mavericks were set to play the online video game Fortnite with fans at LEVELUP Arena in Overland Park on Monday.

The team said proceeds from the endeavor would go to Shatterproof, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending the addiction crisis in the U.S.

Upcoming games

The Mavs travel to Utah to take on the Grizzlies on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Next home game

The Mavericks’ next home game is Tuesday, March 15 against the Tulsa Oilers.
