The Kansas City Mavericks returned to the win column Monday night at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, beating the Idaho Steelheads 5-1.

The victory ended a three-match losing skid for the ECHL minor-league hockey affliliate of the NHL’s Calgary Flames and AHL’s Stockton Heat.

Here’s what’s going on with the Mavs this week.

Outburst of offense

Darik Angeli scored twice Monday as the Mavericks put Idaho away with four goals in the final period. The Steelheads scored their lone goal in the third frame.

Ryan Olsen, Jimmy Lodge and Ryan Harrison also scored for the Mavs (23-24-2).

The lopsided victory was a welcome outcome for KC after two losses last week to the Allen Americans (7-2 and 5-4) and one to the Steelheads (2-1 in a shootout on Friday).
