KC Mavericks update: Tuesday game postponed, but home games scheduled Friday, Saturday

Here is what is going on with the Kansas City Mavericks ECHL minor-league hockey team this week.

Note that Tuesday’s game against the Allen Americans at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence has been postponed to an as-yet-undetermined date because of “league health and safety protocols,” according to an ECHL news release.

Weekend recap

The Mavericks (13-14-1) closed out 2021 with a thrilling 4-3 overtime win at home against the Wichita Thunder on New Year’s Eve.

The Mavericks were trailing 3-2 going in to the third period. Forward Darik Angeli tied the score with 2:52 left in the third period and went on to score the game-winning goal in overtime.

The Mavericks traveled to Wichita on New Year’s Day to face off against the Thunder. The Mavericks started 2022 off with a 4-3 overtime win over the Thunder.

Point streaks

Veteran forward and alternate team captain Darik Angeli is riding a nine-game point streak.

In his last nine games, he has 16 points on seven goals and nine assists. In 24 games played this season, he has 29 points on 11 goals and 18 assists.

This is Angeli’s second season with the Mavericks.

Upcoming games

The Mavericks play host to the Wichita Thunder on Friday for KCYHA Family Friday. Kids wearing their youth sports gear can get one free ticket at the box office.

The Mavs again play host to Wichita on Saturday for Barn Party night. The first 1,500 fans will receive a cowbell, courtesy of Whataburger.
