Kansas confirms 28 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the state total to more than 120

The state of Kansas confirmed 28 additional cases of the coronavirus Wednesday, bringing the state to more than 100 cases of the rapidly spreading virus.

At least 127 people have been infected in the state, including three who died from COVID-19, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

Of the 2,487 residents tested for the virus about 5% have tested positive. That’s an increase from a roughly 4.5% rate of positive results Tuesday.

The statewide total, reported as of Wednesday at 11 a.m., does not include two additional cases in Johnson County or three cases in Shawnee County reported later in the day.

The cases identified in Shawnee County were the county’s first residents to test positive for COVID-19. They included a 70-year-old woman, a 73-year-old man and a 23-year-old man. Two of them had reported out-of-state travel, Shawnee County Health Department director Linda Ochs said.

The state report includes new cases across the state including Wyandotte, Douglas, Leavenworth and Johnson counties. The first cases were also reported in Neosho and Crawford counties.

Three fatalities have been reported in the state from the virus. The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, announced the third fatality Tuesday, a man in his 70s who tested positive for the new coronavirus last week.

Earlier this month Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly imposed a statewide order limiting gatherings larger than 10.

Some counties in the state, including Wyandotte and Johnson counties, entered into stay-at-home orders this week.

Residents are permitted to go grocery shopping, exercise and get medical care. But all non-essential businesses were ordered to close.

In Missouri, state health officials said the number of positive cases in the state had jumped to 356 with eight fatalities.
