Several counties in the Kansas City metro have been placed under a severe thunderstorm watch Friday ahead of potentially severe weather, according to the National Weather Service.

Uncertainty remains in the forecast regarding timing and intensity of the storms, the forecast said. Damaging winds and heavy rain are expected to be the primary threats, but hail and tornadoes can’t be ruled out.

Severe thunderstorm watches cancelled throughout Kansas City metro

All remaining severe thunderstorm watches in the Kansas City metro have been cancelled Friday, according to the National Weather service.

Severe thunderstorm watches cancelled in some metro counties

The National Weather Service cancelled severe thunderstorm watches in several Kansas City metro counties Friday.

In Kansas, Johnson and Wyandotte counties have been removed from the watch, according to the National Weather Service. In Missouri, Platte county was removed from the watch.

Multiple Missouri counties will remain under the watch until 9 p.m., including Clay, Jackson, Lafayette and Ray counties, according to the watch.

KC-area counties placed under severe thunderstorm watch

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. for several counties in both Kansas and Missouri.

Hail, wind and lightning are possible, the weather service said.

In Kansas, Johnson and Wyandotte counties were placed under the watch, according to the weather service. In Missouri, Clay, Jackson, Lafayette, Platte and Ray counties are affected by the watch.
