Storms bring rain, threat of strong winds to Kansas City. Cooler temps ahead
Storms are moving through the Kansas City area Thursday, bringing scattered showers and a threat of strong winds, according to the National Weather Service.
As a cold front moves through the area, the threat for severe weather is low. The greatest threats from the storms are damaging winds and hail, the weather service said on social media Thursday morning.
Showers and storms are likely in the early morning before 9 a.m. Then in the afternoon and evening, more storms could form along a cold front, according to the forecast.
Downpours of rain are possible, but the risk of flooding is minimal around Kansas City Thursday, the weather service said in a forecast discussion.
Temperatures will begin to cool down to seasonal norms after Kansas City endured summer-like heat earlier this week, the weather service said.
Thursday, the high temperature is expected to be near 81 degrees. The overnight low will be near 63 degrees, the forecast shows.
More storms are possible overnight Thursday into Friday morning. Multiple rounds of storms are possible again Friday and throughout the weekend, the forecast shows.
While high temperatures will start to cool down, they will hover in the upper 70s to low 80s throughout the weekend, which is slightly above normal for this time of year, according to the weather service.
