Hit-and-run crash leaves bicyclist injured near south Kansas City park

A bicyclist was left with critical injuries after a hit-and-run crash near Hyde Park in south Kansas City Wednesday night, police said.

Officers responded around 8 p.m. to the area of East 39th Street and Harrison Parkway on the border of Kansas City’s Central Hyde Park and South Hyde Park neighborhoods for a reported crash.

A preliminary investigation showed that a bicycle rider traveled west on East 39th street when a red Hyundai Sonata traveling south on Harrison Parkway struck the bicycle, police said. The Hyundai then sped away from the crash east on 39th Street, police said in an incident report.

The bicycle rider was transported to a hospital with critical injuries, police said.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
